The International Festival of Music Bands got at its 12th edition in 2008.  After being connected for some years to the “Corso Fiorito” (Flower show) taking place at the end of January, it has lately become a separate event. This internationally-known show represents for both citizens and visitors a great opportunity to enjoy Sanremo full of the colours of the traditional and picturesque uniforms and listen to the emotional sounds of national and international music bands who get together to amaze adults and children.

The Festival is traditionally performed at the beginning of October and involves not only local bands, but also national bands, as the “Orchestra a Fiati Antica Musica del Corpo Pompieri di Torino 1882” and the “Storica Banda musicale M° Settimo Sardo di Castroreale”, and also international bands as the “Musique Municipale de la Ville de Genève” and the “Fanfare La Lyre Le Cret” coming from Switzerland besides several bands coming from Germany and Austria.

Throughout the past year the Festival has welcomed unique performances from Guests of Honour such as "Banda del Corpo della Guardia di Finanza", a complete orchestra consisting of over a hundred players, and the “Banda del Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco” .

The Festival represents a very special appointment for the town as it combines tradition and folklore with music - a core element of Sanremo in the world - because even in October, thanks to the music of Music Bands…
